This story is very close to my heart. It is my opinion that all writing is on some level about the author; it's just that some are more or less thinly veiled.

What's the phobia in this story? It's hard to say.

Frank, a retired Professor of Astronomy, has recently lost his wife of forty-two years. Grasping for anything that can possibly help him cope, he has resumed his old smoking habit. When Frank wakes up in the middle of the night to find himself sleeping in an empty bed, he knows he won't make it through the night with the few cigarettes he has left. Even worse, when he leaves the apartment to clear his head with some stargazing, he accidentally locks himself out. What's a man to do when he's lost his wife, he's locked himself out of his apartment, and he's almost out of cigarettes?
